5 Ways to Get Out of Your Head and Reach for Your Dreams

5 Ways to Get Out of Your Head and Reach for Your Dreams

Reach for your dreams

My blog has been all over the place and the reason for that very much seems to be that I am always searching for something that fit in the place of the thing I am always avoiding.  I’ve been a photographer and a cake decorator and done some brand consulting and while I have many different interests, I have mostly been avoiding the dreams that felt most purposeful. Performing arts have always been my passion and for so many reasons I have allowed my fear to stop me from doing pursuing it.

Recently I had an epiphany that really forced me to get out of my head and find ways to start working towards my dream and not let and limiting beliefs get in my way. I think some of those things can help you! These are 5 different things you can do to get out of your own head and start reaching for your dreams!

Start in Your Head

I know it sounds silly to say that the first way to get out of your head is to get into but you need to have a new vision.  Start seeing your life with this new dream and this new plan. Where do you think it can take you 5 years down the line? How do you envision your life with this new goal?  Start painting a picture in your head of what this new lifestyle is going to be.

Check your mindset

Yes, we’re technically still in our head and I’ll be honest, I hate that people always want to start with mindset but it is a necessary step.  If you have limiting thoughts and you let them stop you, you won’t even get to the step of getting out of your head. I have TONS of limiting thoughts so I am right there with you but you have to learn how to get avoid that kind of thinking. Doing the mindset work can really make the difference.

Make it real by talking about your dreams

Now we’re out of our heads for real! Find 2-3 people that you trust and tell them your intentions.  Make sure they are people you trust and who will be supportive and not let their own fears dictate what they think you should do.  These could be your best friends but sometimes it means looking outside of your circle.  I have accountability partners that I met in a business group.  They are gung-ho for whatever I am doing and they help me brainstorm and avoid pitfalls. Being out of my own head allows me to avoid limiting thoughts and having others to help me fight those thoughts really gives me an edge up.

Obtain Missing Skills

You may not know right away how to do this thing you’ve dreamed and so it may take some new training. Do the training! Take the courses! Make time for practice! When the things that you dream of start becoming skills you possess and makes it so much more real. It is a great confidence booster too!  When I started photography I read the books before I even had the camera. Once I got the camera, I applied the principles and then I practiced and practiced. There are so many good resources online to help you to succeed. Take advantage!!

You are not alone

I am starting a very scary journey well into my 30s.  Most people start as a child or at least early early 20s. I have days when I don’t feel qualified to take this on and yet here I am talking to all of you about doing it. There are so many factors working against me so If I can take the leap so can you.

I want to hear all about the dreams you’re going to pursue. Connect with me. Let’s do this together!
